A new album by electronic musician Harel Schreiber (Mule Driver, Mujahideen), this time under his ambient stage name – Max Schreiber.

The project “Variations on Memory” consists of arrangements of “Memorial Day songs” played on electronic instruments in an intuitive manner, meaning Schreiber plays and records them as they remain in his musical memory, at a subjectively varying distance from how the songs were originally written.
Sometimes the memory and performance contain “off notes” and mistakes, certain parts are omitted and others are changed.
The nature of the project lies in the distancing from the original versions toward more abstract realms, characterized by a dark ambient sound that simulates a process of recollection, turning the collective into the personal and letting the air out of the bubble of nationalism that surrounds these songs in the context in which we are used to encountering them.

In 2017, the first part of the project was released, as a four-track EP.
The songs in the first part were “Walk to Caesarea,” “Ballad for the Medic,” “The Sand Will Remember,” and “The Town is Burning.”

The second part of the project, now being released, was created in the shadow of the events of October 2023 and the difficult emotional processing that followed.
The second “songbook” includes the tracks: “Yoram,” “Song for the Hyacinth” “Winter 23,” “Beaches,” “He Who Dreamed,” “Tears of Angels,” “The Hope (Lost),” and “The Little Boat Sails.”

The evening will feature ambient performances by Max Schreiber and by creator and synthesizer builder Anton Nota (Defton Audio), as well as the sale of first copies of the record.
