Musrara Hosts – Eitan Haviv and Dr. Maayan Shelef / Kinneret Haya Max

At the sixth and final meeting of the “Musrara Hosts” series, held monthly at The Distillery, we will meet artist Kinneret Haya Max and sound artist Eitan Haviv, along with Dr. Maayan Shelef, the researcher and curator of his solo exhibition.

Kinneret will discuss live action and the art of live performance as something that relies on the artist’s body—one that represents society, community, and audience through its very presence. She will explore the “I” as a self that can serve as a conduit beyond the personal, encompassing both the seen (the “eye”) and the unseen, as well as pain (the “ai!” and “aye”). She will speak about pain as a gateway to beauty, about art that emerges from engagement with time and place, and about the way a location holds physical and essential knowledge that shapes artistic form. She will also reflect on the spirit of the time, which breathes through the work and sustains it.

Habib and Shelef will discuss how sound and voice embody and reveal poetic and political spaces. They will explore Habib’s experimental practices for generating sound from materials, the selection of sonic elements and the new meanings they acquire through their connection with visual imagery and space, and Shelef’s doctoral research on participatory practices that use the human voice and their relationship to protest movements.
