“No Other Land” – Screening and a panel
“No Other Land,” a film by Basel Adra, Hamdan Bilal, Rachel Shor, and Yuval Abraham, won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2024, but it seems it won’t reach cinemas in Jerusalem.
The film documents the heroic and long-standing struggle of the Masafer Yatta community against Israel’s attempt to expel them from their lands, as well as the extraordinary friendship between Basel and Yuval, two young men, a Palestinian and an Israeli, who believe that a joint struggle can lead to a future of justice, freedom, and equality for all the land’s inhabitants. Alongside documenting the activists’ struggle on the ground, the film presents archival footage that paints a picture of the daily reality of the Israeli occupation in its various forms: demolitions, arrests, constant military presence in Palestinian homes, denial of access to private Palestinian lands, and settler violence.
After the film, we will hold a special panel on the connection between Masafer Yatta and the reality in East Jerusalem. Participants include: Yehudit Oppenheimer, CEO of “Ir Amim,” and Mahmoud Muna, owner of the well-known East Jerusalem bookstore Educational Bookshop, who faces police harassment. Join us for an evening of struggle and hope.
